Gempa bumi berkekuatan M8 mengguncang 2006 Tonga Earthquake pada kedalaman 10 km. Peristiwa seismik early 21st century ini dicatat dan dianalisis oleh Survei Geologi Amerika Serikat.This earthquake occurred in a subduction zone, where one plate descends beneath another into the mantle. Subduction zones generate the planet's most powerful earthquakes.
